It’s never too late…
Carol and John celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this year in style by hiring the Southern Comfort Mississippi paddle boat. It was also to celebrate Carol’s 60th birthday.
I asked Carol if she still had her wedding dress and said wouldn’t it be fun to recreate one of their wedding photos. Carol had made her wedding dress with £10 worth of material. She thought she still had and said if she could get in it still she would be up for the shoot. It fitted.
So to mark the occasion of their Ruby wedding anniversary, Carol and John went all out. Carol wearing her wedding dress and John a suit. Carol even made a wedding bouquet very similar to the one 40 years ago.
We headed down to their local parish church, Holy Trinity in Ingham, Norfolk, for a quick photo shoot. We made a run for it into the church grounds, to save embarrassment and had great fun recreating some photos from their wedding album and added a few new additions.
Carol David and John Prosser were married on 10th May 1975 at 3pm at Whitton Parish Church, Ipswich. Carol was one week off her 20th birthday and John was 21.
Their eyes first met over the path lab when they both worked in Ipswich. Carol was a Path Lab Technician and John was a Research Technician. On 6th April 1973, they had their 1st date, a year later they were engaged and the following year Carol became Mrs Prosser. John proposed during their coffee break, in the work canteen, over a cheese roll. He did get down on one knee and Carol did say ‘yes’.
The wedding day was a bit wet, so unfortunately they had to make a dash for the car soon after the ceremony. They then headed to the White Horse Hotel in Ipswich for a buffet meal with friends and family. Their honeymoon was a 3 day trip to Kent, where they visited 5 steam railways, John’s passion. Forty years on and Carol has grown to appreciate John’s love of steam trains. So much so they even had a trip to Scotland this year and went on 14 different train journeys! It must be love.
Carol and John now have 4 children and 3 very lovely grandchildren.
