Getting the creative juices flowing
Last weekend I headed to Trowse, with my good friend Alison from Alison Armstrong Photography for an Off Camera Lighting Workshop with Chris Bottrell Photography. We had both been really looking forward to a ‘kid free’ catch up and a chance to get the creative juices flowing. So after 2 hours of chatting away (there is never enough time) and eating chocolate brownie and apple crumble we headed to the alternative bridal styled shoot.
I’m not cool enough for this Place
The alternative Bridal styled shoot took place at the very cool Redwell Brewery in Trowse. The brewery is tucked away under the bridge and it’s a really quirky venue. As soon as we walked in I said to Ally “I’m not cool enough for this place”. With it’s metal kegs for seating and cable drums for tables, this is beer on tap with a difference. You’re literally sitting in the brewery.
The alternative Bridal styled shoot
The alternative Bridal styled shoot was organised by Amy at Vintage Silks who also provided the styling and Silk Flowers. Our awesome alternative Bride model Becky, was styled in black with pops of red in her flowers, petticoat, belt and hair band. The shoot started at the huge stainless steel kegs where Chris had set up some LED lights. Coloured gels were added to create some dramatic colour combinations. The kegs were perfect for creating an interesting backdrop without any real need for styling. We then headed outside as the light was fading, to capture some images of the model with the American Airstream Caravan in the background. This was great for reflecting the colours from the stunning hand painted, leather jacket by Bertie Valentine London.
It’s always great fun to attend workshops with other photographers, learn new skills or step out of your comfort zone or usual style. This shoot was definitely different to what I normally do, but I absolutely loved it! Alternative Bridal styled shoots are a lot of fun.
